Woman dies, man with serious injuries after N4 RTC

A woman in her eighties has died and a man in his thirties has serious injuries following a two car collision at Doon on the N4 on Sunday evening December 31st.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly before 5:00pm after two cars collided on the N4 at Doon near Boyle. The driver of one of the cars, a woman in her late 80s was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second car, a man in his 30s was taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital. His injuries are understood to be serious.
A technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators has been arranged for tomorrow morning and traffic diversions on the route will remain in place overnight.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also appealing to those with camera footage, including dash-cam to make it available to them.

Traffic is being diverted at the Deerpark junction on the N4 via the N61 link road and old Curlieu Road and also north of Ballinafad for those travelling east. Traffic is also being diverted via Corrigeenroe/Ballinafad.
