Two bodies recovered from Shannon
A Garda investigation is underway after the body of a man and woman were recovered from the water in Carrick on Shannon Friday afternoon.
An initial report that two people were missing was made at 11am and searches involving local gardai and the Civil Defense got underway at a local marina in the town.
Shannonside FM report that the couple are understood to have earlier this week hired a cruiser on the river.
The body of a man in his 30s was recovered from the water around 2pm close to the cruiser, and the body of a woman was later recovered around 4pm.
Gardai have confirmed to Shannonside FM that the victims are both Irish nationals, believed to living in Germany.
The bodies will be removed to Sligo University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out on Monday and Gardai are treating the deaths as accidental.
