Submissions received on proposed Aldi development in Boyle

Last Tuesday was the last day for submissions on the proposed Aldi development on St. Patrick Street in Boyle and as of this morning Friday 4th, there have been five submissions uploaded to the projects planning file on  Roscommon Co Co’s website. There may/may not still be more submissions to be uploaded to the file. The submissions are from: The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage; an individual from Co. Offaly; a firm of consulting engineers on behalf of clients who own a business and property locally; the Historic Houses of Ireland (redacted) and RGDATA – the Retail Grocery Dairy & Allied Trades Association that represents independent family owned food and convenience shops nationwide. Some make observations/recommendations while others call for a straight forward refusal of the permission. With the decision progress indicator this morning at 69%, Roscommon County Council is due to make a decision on the application by Tuesday April 22nd.

Town visit by Fingal County Council

If you are around Boyle next Tuesday and see a group of visitors walking around town looking at various buildings and infrastructure don’t put two and two together and get five! The visitors will be from Fingal County Council and are coming to Boyle to see the positive changes we have made to the town, how the various projects were implemented and to see how Boyle is planning for the future. They will be accompanied by members of Roscommon Co Co regeneration team along with members of Boyle Town Team. The visitors will look at the Lough Key to Boyle cycleway, the upgrade of the Doon Shore, the public realm work on Bridge Street and Shop Street, view An Rioga and King House, see the Pleasure Ground upgrade, hear plans for The Lawn area, the new Library and further public realm work around town. A fact finding visit from a local authority like Fingal is testament to the great work that has taken place in Boyle over the last few years with more to come.

Exciting summer in store for music lovers

There is a serious line up of musical acts playing in Boyle this summer – thanks to Boyle Arts Festival and Night and Day Festival. Names like Paul Brady, The Irish Tenors, The Fureys, Bad Manners, Sultans of Ping, Something Happens, KT Tunstall, Hermitage Green, The Stunning and Harvest (Neil Young Tribute band) are just a few of the acts that will feature in both festivals this year. We are very luck indeed to have such high quality acts performing right on our doorstep, but hurry – as tickets are selling fast!

‘Pick and Walk’ around Boyle this April

In the next week or so, Boyle Tidy Town group will be publishing a schedule for Thursday evening weekly litter/clean ups around the town as part of the National Spring Clean. Another initiative the group would like to promote is “Pick ‘n Walk”. “April is the nationally designated Spring Cleaning month. On this basis, particularly if you are a regular walker, would you consider when going for a walk to bring a small carrier bag with you and pick up some of the obvious litter you see along your way. You can then dispose of this in a litter bin or even bring it home to your own blue/black bin. The more people who would do this the cleaner our town will be and you would be doing a great deed for your community. So don’t go for a walk. Go for a Pick ‘n walk” .

And finally….!

An Irish way to get over the Trump Thump if it hits the pharma industry:
“If the pharmaceuticals ship to Greenland from Belfast and then come back to Belfast, before shipping to the US, they can charge themselves a credit of 10% into Ireland that wipes out the 10% tariff applied to the UK and then they ship to Shannon by road and go via Milltown Malbay in Clare so they’d get the Gaeltacht tax credit from the EU with is 33% for underprivileged minority language regions and then ship to US via Shannon or Foynes paying the 20%, making a profit of 13%!!”.
