The Orchestra of the Music School of Binningen-Bottmingen, Switzerland and the Roscommon Youth Orchestra performed in Boyle on Saturday, 11th October.
The Swiss orchestra arrived in Boyle Saturday morning and the two orchestras spent the day rehearsing together and getting to know each other.
Over 70 young musicians performed together for the first time.
This is the first time that RCYO has hosted another orchestra.
RCYO is Roscommon’s youth orchestra development project which has been in operation since 2007. With over 50 members between the ages of 10 and 18, RCYO provides classical instrumental tuition to young people from all over the county. In 2013, RCYO performed at the National Concert Hall and to great acclaim.
RCYO is a project of Roscommon County Council, Roscommon VEC and the Arts Council of Ireland with the support of The Phoenix, Ballaghaderreen. RCYO acknowledges the support of The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, The Arts Council and Music Network through the Music Capital Scheme 2011.
