Boyle escaped the worst of storm

It would appear Boyle escaped with little damage following Monday’s Storm Ophelia which brought winds in excess of 191kmph to some parts of the country.

The storm hit Boyle mid afternoon with damaging gusts continuing well into the night.

At one stage a large number of customers were without power south of Boyle.

The town remained empty from mid day onwards following unprecedented agency warnings with nearly all businesses closed in the town. (see closure list here)

Today, Tuesday, is a totally different day with bright spells and little wind while some closures and disruptions remain in place.

All schools will stay closed today.

The Boyle beaver and cubs meetings scheduled for tonight Tuesday have been cancelled.

All Coillte Parks, including Lough Key Forest Park remain closed to the public on Tuesday 17th.

All Irish Rail services on the Dublin Sligo line are operating with slight delays.

Yesterday’s last train to Boyle, the 13.05 ex Connolly did not arrive in town until  18.45 following fallen trees on the line.
