Royal building to host Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition
The recently completed Royal Building on Bridge Street in Boyle will host this year’s Boyle Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition.
The Festival office will also be located in the building with the festival running from July 20th to 29th.
Arts Officer Rhona McGrath commented: “Roscommon County Council Arts Office and Boyle Arts Festival are delighted to collaborate on this first exhibition which will offer artists and viewers alike a contemporary destination for the arts in Boyle and in County Roscommon.” The BAF Open Art Exhibition is a popular showcase for diverse and exciting styles and mediums of art, attracting entries from all over Ireland”.
The €3.5m regeneration of the former hotel into an exhibition space and associated activity was recently completed.
The schedule of work, when advertised on etender, included the “Refurbishment works to the original main structure (internal and external) into an Enterprise Centre and Exhibition Space · Works to include; roof repairs, replacement of windows, repairs/painting of the interior/exterior walls, replacement of floors, removal of exterior window shutters, installation of a lift within the original building and installation of heating/electrical equipment · Construction of a River Side Promenade with lighting, seating and landscaping · Construction of a new Civic Space with bandstand, lighting, seating and landscaping to the rear of the original main structure · All other associated site and ancillary works”.
It is also understood a canoe docking facility, information point and coffee dock were be part of the development.
