Rehearsals commence soon for ‘The Sound of Music’

With the evenings drawing in around us, it means it is time to think about what to do for the autumn.

A good plan could be to take part in Boyle Musical Society’s forthcoming production of ‘The Sound of Music’ which will be staged from November 20th to 23rd.

Rehearsals will begin at 8pm on Monday, September 2nd in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle and a warm welcome is extended to all new, former and existing members to join up for twelve unforgettable weeks of music, singing, drama, dancing, comedy and lots more.

The Production team of Anne, Vivienne and Victoria will be there to outline the show to everybody, so come along and join the fun. It is hoped to have the principal parts cast by mid-September, so we are really expecting a big turnout at the first rehearsal, but please be aware that unfortunately there are no parts for students sitting Junior or Leaving cert. exams next year.

With a show-stopping score and a powerful story, ‘The Sound of Music’ became an instant classic when it opened on Broadway in 1959. With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the show is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers’. Everybody will be familiar with the 1965 film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and memorable songs such as ‘Climb Every Mountain’, ‘My Favourite Things’, So Long, Farewell’, ‘Edelweiss’, The Lonely Goatherd’ and of course ‘Maria’.

This is another show that will require a large choral cast, so if you are interested in choral singing along with performance and drama, this just might be the show for you.
