Power outages following lightning
Power should be restored this morning (Wednesday) to a number of homes in County Roscommon following lightning strikes on Tuesday evening.
Hillstreet, Rooskey and Strokestown were the worst affected areas.
At one stage over 2000 customers nationwide were without electricity.
Heavy rain added to the problem leaving a number of roads in the region impassible or in a treacherous condition.
The main N4 Sligo to Dublin road on the Boyle side of Carrick on Shannon was reduced to one lane due to flooding.
The weather will be mainly dry and bright this morning but with cloud gradually building up towards midday. Showers will be well scattered at first but they will be more frequent during the afternoon and evening; there’ll be the occasional heavy one also. Highs of 15 to 18 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly breezes.
