Nurses strike to affect local hospitals
37,000 nurses and midwives across the country take to the picket line this morning in a second day of industrial action over pay and conditions.
Approximately 50,000 medical appointments have been cancelled as a result of the 24 hour strike which commenced at 8am Tuesday morning.
Locally, Roscommon, Sligo and Galway hospitals are affected with Dr Fergal Hickey, a consultant in emergency medicine in Sligo Hospital advising patients “Unless you have a life or limb threatening condition you should not be coming to the emergency department at the hospital”.
Pickets will also be in place at Boyle Primary Care Centre from 9am.
