There are two organised walks to the Bricklieves on Thursday evening of Mid Summers Day.
Curlew Walkers will meet in McDermott’s Car park at 7pm for their ‘Sunset Walk’ led by Philip James.
Earlier in the evening Seatrails (www.seatrails.ie) are also organising a walk from the filling station in Castlebaldwin meeting at 5.30pm
Advance booking for this 2.5 hour event is necessary by emailing [email protected] or call 087 2405071 before the 20th June.
Cost €20 per person or €10 per child.
Cairn G at Carrowkeel in the Bricklieve Mountain has a roofbox above the entrance, similar to Newgrange. The sun enters the chamber through the roofbox at sunset for about a month before and after the summer solstice. For the days around the summer solstice the sunset illuminates the back of the chamber.
