Roscommon Dail Deputy Eugene Murphy as offered to mediate in attempts to reopen Castlerea Fire Station.
His offer comes following a meeting in the O’Rourke Centre in the town on Tuesday night as frustration grows in the community at the two month closure.
Four firemen attached to the station attended the meeting along with approx. 60 others with the four agreeing to meet with Deputy Murphy.
There was anger also that no council or fire department representative had attended Tuesday night’s meeting.
Castlerea Fire Station closed on January 20th due to “staff shortages” and has remained closed since then.
It has resulted in cover being available from neighbouring stations in Roscommon town, Ballyhaunis, Ballaghadereen or Elphin.
