Man rescued from Boyle River
A man was rescued from the Boyle river earlier today.
He entered the river close to Boyle bridge in an area known as ‘The Lawn’ around lunchtime.
He was carried by the fast flowing river past the Pleasure Grounds and Abbey Terrace before being rescued close to Results Gym by quick thinking students from Abbey Community College.
The alarm was raised when the man was seen entering the river and the emergency services were alerted.
Boyle Fire Brigade, ambulance service and Gardai were quickly in attendance.
The man in his 40’s was assessed at the riverside before being brought to hospital.
A spokesperson for Abbey College said “Huge commendation to the lads from Abbey College today in their quick thinking, bravery and willingness to act. Well done!”
