The N61 Boyle to Roscommon road was closed at Cooltigue Cross overnight following a fatal car collision.
The male driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene while one of two occupants in the other car was brought to hospital.
The accident happened at approximately 1 am.
Gardai in Roscommon are asking for witnessses of the collision to contact them
