Many parts of Boyle were without water on Monday night and Tuesday morning due to a major water leak on the old Carrick Road at Carrickmore.
Roscommon Co Co were notified of the leak shortly after 7pm on Monday night.
Boyle Gardai were also alerted and were present on the N4 to warn traffic as the water cascaded across the road.
Council personnel turned off the water as an emergency measure and work commenced early Tuesday on repairing the leak.
