The Curlieu Wheelers organised inaugural Lough Key Classic cycling sportive took place in Boyle on Saturday 17th May and such was its success that it now looks set to become an annual event on the cycling calendar.
Nearly 170 riders participated in the 120k and 60k events and the family cycle with the weather holding out until the finish.
Participants spoke highly of the route, the friendliness and professionalism of the marshals and the quality of food provided which surpassed any other sportive they participated in.
The event would not have been possible without a real community input which is evident by the following list of “thank you’s” that Curlieu Wheelers would like to make public and which is in no particular order:

Finally, the event would not have run as smoothly as it did without the volunteer marshals, (cycling club members and non-members) who assisted before, during and after the event– your support is very much appreciated and shows how lucky we are in Boyle that the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in our town.
The sportive will feature on Roscommon County Matters (Monday’s 6.30pm) on IrishTV in the next few weeks.
