New Lidl store refused permission

Leitrim County Council has refused permission to Avant Ireland Property for a new Lidl store on the N4 east of Carrick on Shannon.

The planning application would have seen the closure of the existing store in Cortober on the Boyle Road and the building turned into a gymnasium and car sales showroom.

While many from Boyle, who currently travel to the Lidl store in Cortober, had expressed concern at the move, it is not believed that any of the 130 objections to the proposal were from Boyle.

Cootehall based councillor and Boyle municipal district council member Rachel Doherty did lodge an objection.

Roscommon Co Co were also one of the objectors stating “the existing Lidl store in Cortober is appropriately located”.

In deciding to refuse, Leitrim Co Co said the size of the floor space exceeds the retail cap in the county.

There were also other factors in the local authorities decision to refuse.
