Lidl end plans for new Carrick store
It is understood plans to build a new Lidl store in Carrick on Shannon have been abandoned.
The application in the name of Avant Ireland S.a.r.l. was for a two storey building on land at Attifinlay and Attirory, opposite the existing Avant Card facility on the Dublin side of Carrick.
The two and a half year effort to build the store met with objection locally as the location was seen as one of the last green field sites in the area.
Previously Leitrim Co Co granted permission for the new store but this was appealed to An Bord Pleanala who overturned the decision.
The company then lodged a new application.
This was subsequently rejected by the council and then by An Bord Pleanala.
Lidl’s current store is located on the Boyle Road at Cortober but the company planned to close this store if permission was obtained for the new facility.
