Law may ban street drinking in Carrick
A controversial new by law may soon be introduced in Carrick on Shannon banning the consumption of alcohol on the streets of the Leitrim town.
The counties Joint Policing Committee are understood to have recommended a new by law should be passed that would make it illegal to consume alcohol outside premises in Carrick.
Similar laws are in place in other towns that cater for stag and hen parties like Westport and Galway.
While Garda authorities are in favour of the by law, it is believed there is opposition from some publicans in the town to it’s introduction.
