Boyle Citizen’s Information – ‘Electricity Account Credit’

What is the electricity account credit?

Eligible domestic electricity customers will get a credit of €250 off their electricity bills to help with
the high costs of energy. This payment is automatic, and you do not need to apply for it.
This will be paid in 2 separate instalments of €125 (€114.68 excluding VAT) each, between 1
November 2024 and 28 February 2025.

Am I eligible for the credit?

The credit applies to domestic electricity accounts registered with a supplier in the Republic of
Ireland. You are eligible if you are registered as either an urban or rural domestic customer.
Properties that have very low levels of use do not automatically get credits. An account is considered
‘low usage’ if consumption was less than 150kWh (kilowatt-hour) per quarter in the 4 consecutive
quarters from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024.
The low usage threshold does not apply if:
 You are on, or are entitled to be on, the vulnerable customer register
 You have a hardship PAYG meter
 You are micro-generating electricity
 The supplier is satisfied that the low usage account is for your primary residence.

When will I get the credit?

Your €250 credit will be split into 2 instalments of €125 each. You will get your:
 First payment between 1 November 2024 and 31 December 2024
 Second payment between 1 January 2025 and 28 February 2025
The date the credit is applied to your account depends on your billing cycle with your supplier.
Suppliers will have information on their websites showing the exact dates the credit was applied to
customers’ bills.

Do I get the credit if I am renting?

You get the credit if your name is registered on the electricity account for your accommodation.
However, if you pay your landlord for electricity, your landlord should pass the credit on to you. If
there is a dispute that you cannot resolve informally, you can contact the RTB’s free mediation
service.
