No major jobs announcement
Speculation over the weekend that a major jobs announcement for the town was imminent have proved unfounded.
It had been suggested that up to 80 production jobs were in the pipeline for the vacant Green Isle factory in Greatmeadow but this has been denied following enquiries from Boyletoday.com on Monday afternoon.
While it is understood there has been some interest in recent times in the factory for an alternative use, it seems that talk of a large jobs boost for the town at this stage is premature.
John Earley from Property Partners Early in Roscommon who are joint selling agents for the 28,000 sq. ft. facility told Boyletoday.com that the property was not sold as yet and was still on the market.
A spokesperson for the I.D.A. in Athlone who cover the Roscommon region also confirmed to Boyletoday.com that as afar as they were aware no jobs announcement was in the pipeline for the Green Isle factory at this stage but said that the I.D.A. were actively looking for inward investment for the town and would continue to do so. The spokesperson also confirmed that Enterprise Ireland were not aware of any imminent announcement for the town.
Finally local T.D. Frank Feighan confirmed that there had been “some interest” in the factory in recent times.
