‘In These Rooms’ remembers the former Royal Hotel

IN THESE ROOMS, an exhibition by Greer MacKeogh, will open on Saturday 31st August in the newly restored An Ríoga Gallery in the former Royal Hotel, on Bridge Street in Boyle.

The exhibition marks the closing of the Royal Hotel which played an important role in the lives of many local people.

IN THESE ROOMS brings together images, text, video and objects to understand how the Royal was treasured as a social space for locals and guests. It considers what lingers beyond dates and facts about this historic building, to examine the sedimented and ingrained stories and memories held within.

Greer MacKeogh is an artist and researcher from Dublin. Over the course of many years, through a series of residencies and many shorter visits she has built up an image of the Royal Hotel, recollected through stories, images and objects.

Commissioned by Roscommon County Council as part of our Creative Ireland Programme, the exhibition will have its official opening on Saturday 31st August 2024 at 4pm and will run until 15th September with public opening times as follows:

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday – 11am-4pm

Saturday & Sunday 11am-6pm
