Icy causing treacherous conditions
Gardai are warning of treacherous road conditions on the N4 between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon following overnight freezing conditions.
A number of cars have skidded off the road.
The Frenchpark Road outside Boyle and the N4 past Castlebaldwin are also reported dangerous as are a number of secondary roads.
Footpaths are also particularly bad and treacherous for walking on until later in the morning.
The frost will slowly clear giving a cold crisp start across most parts. Staying dry and sunny generally – however scattered showers will affect coastal counties of the north and west (wintry on higher ground) with the risk of isolated showers along the east coast later too. Highest temperatures of only 4 to 7 or possibly 8 degrees Celsius in mostly moderate northerly breezes, fresh and gusty near some coasts.
