Gurteen PO campaign on the radio
The campaign to save Gurteen Post Office will take to the airwaves this morning Tuesday August 28th,
Ocean FM will be broadcasting their show, North West Today with Niall Delaney, live from Teach Murray between 9 – 11 am.
The focus of the show will be on the potential closure of Gurteen Post Office and its devastating impact on the village.
Gurteen Post Office is among a number of Post Office’s nationwide that were announced for closure at the start of August.
A campaign has commenced to keep the PO open with supporters commenting that:
“Gurteen post office has functioned as the hub of our very rural community, offering essential financial and postal services, but also serving as a centre point for social connection among residents and those of the surrounding town lands – connecting the community, its businesses, residents and generations together.”
“Recently, there was a public meeting to discuss the situation and a place where people could express how they felt about the proposed closure. Over 420 people attended, supported by local politicians and councillors. Following a lively meeting, a committee was formed to organise the community’s protest and to fight for the post office to remain open.”
