A playground in Gurteen has closed in recent days as it can not obtain affordable insurance cover.
A post on Gurteen Playground and Recreation Groups Facebook page states:” We regret to inform the community that the playground is officially closed for foreseeable future until we can secure insurance. The committee will continue to work diligently to get insurance cover”.
Local radio station Ocean FM report that the groups most recent quotation for insurance was from a UK company at a cost of €20,000.
Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor said he would be speaking to Sligo Co Co about the matter and suggested that there “has to be a national position on this”.
