Garda response to domestic abuse remains steadfast
An Garda Síochána’s response to domestic abuse remains steadfast. Phase 3 of Operation Faoiseamh has commenced and according to a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana in the Castlerea District (which also includes Boyle): “We will maintain our commitment to proactively support and provide reassurance for all victims of domestic abuse”.
“We in An Garda Síochána are very much aware of the importance of everyone feeling safe within their homes and all reported incidents will be fully investigated and perpetrators of domestic abuse will be brought before the courts where possible”.
Castlerea District Superintendent Tom Colsh has stated that ‘With the current Covid-19 Level 5 restrictions in place, I wish to reassure victims of domestic abuse that the travel restrictions do not apply to them if they wish to travel to a family member, a friend, a local Garda station or any place of safety’
“An Garda Síochána has a very strong policy in terms of domestic abuse and work in collaboration with a number of agencies who provide wonderful support services in this area. These agencies include Women’s Aid, Men’s Aid, Rape Crisis Centre among others. Locally in the Castlerea District, our members have a very strong working relationship with Roscommon Safelink.
