Fire service personnel around Roscommon have been busy in recent days yet again with a number of new gorse and forest fires.
Boyle and Roscommon units attended a gorse and forest fire at Leitrim townland between Frenchpark and Castlerea yesterday afternoon.
This was the second fire in the area in a number of days.
In Cloondacarra on the Ballymoe side of Castlerea a large volume of forestry was destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon.
Over the weekend, forestry was also destroyed in the Ballaghaderreen area while in Geevagh and Corey Mountian, Boyle Fire Service assisted in fighting large outbreaks.
The increase in fires, especially in the Castlerea area, has given rise to calls by members of the public for the reopening of Castlerea Fire Station which has been closed now since January.
