Five candidates for Boyle FG seat
Boyle woman Mary Doyle (Keenan) has confirmed to Boyletoday.com that she will not be contesting the upcoming Fine Gael co-option convention.
It had been speculated for some time that the daughter of former Councillor Ernie Keenan would put her name forward for the vacant seat.
Mary said she fully endorsed her town colleague Jan Flanagan and said she (Jan) would make an ideal Councillor if elected.
The convention will take place on Monday June 13th to fill the Boyle Municipal District council seat left vacant by the election of Maura Hopkins to Seanad Eireann.
At this stage there are understood to be five contestants for the position.
Boyle’s Jan Flanagan, Castlerea man Liam Callaghan, Arigna’s Charlie Hopkins, Ann Higgins from Ballaghaderreen and Linda Doorly.
220 Fine Gael members are entitled to vote at the convention which will take place on Monday week.
