€40,000 grant for new games area in Pleasure Grounds

Boyle Town Team has been awarded €39,649 in CLAR funding for the creation of a multi use games area in the Pleasure Grounds in Boyle.

The news has been welcomed by Town Team Chairman Ciaran Sheerin who said: “We are delighted that Boyle Town Team has successfully secured funding through the CLÁR Measure 1 program to revitalize the existing basketball courts in the Pleasure Grounds area”.

“The main objective of this project is to create a space that is accessible and user-friendly to the entire community of all ages and abilities through the installation of a Multi-Use Games Area. It will cater to a wide variety of sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball, tennis etc. Adjustable equipment means it can cater to different abilities and provide inclusive gaming experiences” said Ciaran.

“The current amenity is not suitable for people with additional mobility needs and is in a poor state of repair (degraded surfaces, damaged enclosure fencing). This project will give this area a much needed overhaul” concluded Ciaran who singled out Boyle Town Team volunteers Aine Murphy and Aoife Roddy who “were key to securing this funding”.

Announcing the successful projects, Minister Heather Humphreys said: “I am very pleased to announce over €11.4 million for 264 projects under my Department’s CLÁR Programme. The projects we are funding are based on a bottom-up approach; Ideas and proposals that have come directly from communities on the ground. From playgrounds and sports facilities to sensory gardens and community halls – these projects will make a really positive difference in towns and villages throughout Rural Ireland”.

“That is what we are about in the Department of Rural and Community Development – supporting our local and community groups in delivering the ambition and vision that they have for their areas.”

Deputy Frank Feighan has also welcomed the announcement.
