Contracts signed for construction of 16 new houses

Contracts for the construction of 16 new homes at Cnoc na hAbhainn, Boyle were signed today in Áras an Chontae, Roscommon.

The new development consists of 8 different house types ranging from 2 bedroom units, 3 bedroom units and 4 bedrooms including all associated site works and services.

The development will be designed by Kiltimagh based TA Group and will be constructed by Cong based Finna Construction Limited. Construction is set to begin next month with the project expected to be complete by 2025.
The development is designed as in fill site developments and has been funded by the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage through the Social Housing Investment Programme and delivered by Roscommon County Council’s Housing Department.

The signing was witnessed by the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Paschal Fitzmaurice, Chief Executive Shane Tiernan, Acting Director of Services with responsibility for Housing, Fiona Ní Chuinn as well as members of the Council’s housing staff.

This new project follows the delivery of 49 new housing units in Monksland, Roscommon town and Elphin, which were officially unveiled by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien in May, illustrating the local authority’s commitment to provide quality housing for its citizens.

In the past twelve months, Roscommon County Council has developed 91 housing units. The local authority are continuing to deliver homes through multiple delivery streams including direct build, turnkey projects, regeneration projects and through Approved Housing Bodies.

Director with Finna Construction Ltd. Vincent Lydon said his company are looking forward to commencing construction: “This is an exciting project for us and further endorses our company’s reputation for delivering quality housing. We expect to begin work next month (August).

“Our company has recently delivered eight new houses as part of a new development in Ballymoe, Co. Galway and we are currently finishing a development in Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo, comprising 22 new houses”, said Mr. Lydon at today’s contract signing.

Speaking following the signing, Acting Director of Services with responsibility for Housing, Fiona Ní Chuinn remarked: “Today’s contract signing is further evidence of Roscommon County Council’s commitment to provide quality, modern and sustainable housing.

“Our housing team in Roscommon County Council are meeting our housing targets and housing demand by providing quality and environmentally friendly A-rated homes under the ‘Housing for All’ programme.

“We are delighted to be working with Finna Construction who have been engaged in the construction of these new homes. The company have a fine record in the delivery of quality housing which are delivered on time and on budget”, said Ms. Ní Chuinn.

Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council, Shane Tiernan said today’s contract signing was “raising the bar in terms of residential design that integrates sustainable communities as a fundamental principle. They also set a very high standard for future housing developments.

“I wish to acknowledge the hard work of the housing team together with the many stakeholders involved in bringing these projects to fruition. ’These developments will support families in accessing secure, good quality sustainable housing”

“The development of these new homes will, I am confident, provide an economic and social boost to the town of Boyle. New homes means new families and new families’ means the creation of strong and cohesive communities. With new homes, opportunities are created for local businesses to flourish and job opportunities to be created. This new development will deliver on those ambitions”, said Mr. Tiernan
