The annual Boyle and District Angling Club Pike Festival that was traditionally held on Lough Key over the Easter weekend has been cancelled for this year.
In a statement posted on the Club’s Facebook page on Monday evening, the club said: “It is with great disappointment that we are making this announcement due to the lack of willingness, commitment and support of Club Members, Boyle and District Angling Club are unable to proceed with this year’s Easter Pike Angling Festival on Lough Key”.
“The Committee alone cannot run an event of these size without the help and support of Club Members and sadly this year that was not forthcoming”.
“The Club has been running this event for 38 years,and it has always been the highlight of our Angling year, were we looked forward to welcoming everyone back to Boyle and Lough Key”.
“We would like to apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience this announcement has caused”.
“We would like to take this opportunity to Thank all of the Hundreds of Anglers who have supported us over nearly 4 decades, without each and everyone our event wouldn’t be the huge success that it has been for all of these years”.
“Also the staff of Inland Fisheries Ireland who have worked with us every year and provided staff for the weekend. Roscommon County Council for making sure the Doonshore was in great shape for us. Members of Boyle Garda for assisting us and to all our sponsors over the years. Thank you all very much”.
“We have to give a special thank you to all of those None Club members who have given up their Easter Weekend for over 30 years to help us out and nothing was to much trouble for them, they have been amazing”.
