Boyle native to speak in Dublin City Hall

Boyle native Hilary Beirne will give a talk titled “A Celebration of Irish Heritage. The 69th Regiment. A legacy of service and the New York City St Patrick’s Day Parade” in Dublin City Hall on Wednesday August 21st commencing at 10.30am

The event is a free ticketed event and is part of a series of events hosted throughout Ireland and Dublin City as part of National Heritage Week. This year’s theme for National Heritage Week is “Connections, Routes and Networks”.

On Wednesday, Hilary will speak about the history of the Irish in New York, the 69th Regiment, the New York City’s St Patrick’s Day Parade and his journey from Roscommon to New York and his bid to be elected to Seanad Eireann.

A native of Rathdiveen, Boyle, County Roscommon, Hilary Beirne is currently living in New York. Educated at University College Galway, University College Dublin, Franciscan Agriculture College Mountbellew Galway and The City University of New York at Hunter College, he immigrated to the US in 1988 and has worked for the last 30 years at the world’s largest and oldest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, currently serving as its Chief Administrative Officer. In 2012, the 69th Regiment recognised Hilary for his outstanding support of the Fighting 69th Regiment and in 2017, he was designated an Honorary Member by order of the Secretary of the Army. He is also a member of the 69th Regiment Historical Trust, serves on the Executive Board at VotingRights.ie and is a member of the Irish Ad Hoc Committee to Protect the Good Friday Agreement in Washington, D.C. Hilary’s book is entitled A Celebration of Irish Heritage and Service. The 9th Regiment: A Legacy of Service and Irish American Pride in the New York City St Patrick’s Day Parade.
