Boyle man remanded in murder case

Updated: 33 year old Oisin Conroy of The Mews, Mailcoach Road, Sligo and originally from Boyle appeared before Sligo District Court  this morning charged with the murder of a 23 year old woman in Sligo yesterday.

Mr Conroy made no reply when charged by Sergeant Patrick Harney at 12.54am this morning in Sligo Garda Station.

He has been remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison until next Thursday when he will  appear again before Sligo court.

Council for the accused Keith O’Grady requested that Mr Conroy get all the medical attention required while in custody.

Mr O’Grady along with Mr Conroy’s family also requested the assistance of personnel from the Central Mental Hospital while he is in custody.

Mr Conroy appeared in court in a blue hoodie with his head heavily bandaged.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne, in reply to a question from Judge Kirane, said Mr Conroy’s injuries were self inflicted and he was a threat to himself.

The court ordered that he be placed on suicide watch while in prison.

He was granted free legal aid.

The court appearance follows the death of 23 year old Easkey woman Natalie McGuinness who was found injured at a house on Mail Coach Road in Sligo yesterday morning.

She was brought by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where she died a short time later.

Gardai believe she had been strangled.

A man was also brought to hospital from the scene after he was disarmed by members of the Garda Regional Support unit.

He was allegedly armed with a knife.
