Boyle is high on social housing list
Boyle is among a number of towns in county Roscommon considered at need for council housing.
Acting Director of Services with responsibility for housing, Boyle man Derek Caldbeck said the council is investigating all options including construction and acquisation of lands.
It is understood there are currently 700 people on Roscommon County Council’s housing waiting list.
Boyle, Ballaghaderreen, Castlerea, Roscommon and Monksland are the towns that are most at need.
Mr Caldbeck said the council are looking at the construction of houses on local authority lands, the acquisation of lands for construction and long term leases with groups of investors.
Another option being considered by the council is getting involved with unfinished estates in areas like Boyle where the need for social housing is high.
