Boyle golf club news
INTERCLUBS – Boyle had a notable victory over Enniscrone GC in the first round of the Jack O’Sullivan Tournament. The win was a particularly sweet one for first time team captain Shane O’Dowd as Boyle had some significant disadvantages, including the club being drawn to play 3 of the 5 matches on Enniscrone’s course, but also the refusal of Enniscrone to allow the match to be played at a weekend. Boyle GC has a significantly lower playing population than Enniscrone so we knew that playing on a weekday would disproportionately affect our ability to fulfil the fixture. We were still seeking our 10th player on the day of the match when Mark Whelan stepped in. In the games in Boyle, Vincent Egan and Lorcan Egan won their game, and word came back that we had lost 1 of the 3 Enniscrone games but in the 2nd of the Enniscrone ties Shane O’Dowd and Karl Keenan pulled off the most vital result of the day beating their opposite numbers from Enniscrone on the 14th hole of their own course. Back in Boyle, Martin Wynne and Mark Whelan were 3 holes down early on in their match but overturned this deficit to win the deciding game of the match. Away wins against Enniscrone are a real rarity so this was a very satisfying one for Boyle. Best of luck to Shane and the team in the next round.
RESULTS – Mark Feehan carried some of his recent Thursday night form through to the competition played on Saturday and Sunday the 16/17th of July, winning the 18 Hole Stroke competition with a 61 nett. Adam Daly was 2nd with 64, Lorcan Egan had the best gross and Kevin O’Connor came 3rd with 66 nett.
PRACTICE NETS – The practice nets are closed until further notice. Thanks for your cooperation.
REDUCED GREEN FEES FOR CHILDREN – We have a very competitive membership rate for under 18s at 60 euro for a full year. Our usual green fee for a round for a non member is 15 euro, but we are offering a special reduced green fee for under 18s on Mondays of just 5 euro. This rate will apply on Mondays for June, July and August. We hope this will allow some children and teenagers try out the game and see if they enjoy it without having to commit to a Junior Membership first. Just sign the Green Fee book in the front hall of the clubhouse and place the green fee in an envelope in the letterbox beside the inner door. Under 18s must be supervised by an adult.
