CAPTAINS PRIZE – Jonathan Egan’s Captains Day takes place on August 15th this year. To be eligible to win first place in the Mens’ Captains Prize competition you must have played in one 18 hole qualifying competition in the club this year, have a valid WHS handicap, and be in “good standing” as regards membership. There will be a Scramble on the Friday evening beforehand open to all club members, men and women, please have names in for 6, with shotgun start 6.30. Food on Captains Day itself will be a barbecue, with the meat being very kindly sponsored once again by Club Member Tom Kearney’s business, Quality Meats, Wine St Car Park, Sligo. The competition will be the usual 18 hole Stroke with a 9 hole playoff, with presentation immediately afterwards. There will be 1 or 2 tough pins on the day! It would be great to see a good turnout, the best of luck to everyone who takes part.

CAPTAINS PRIZE TO THE LADIES – This competition had been due to be played on Sunday the 8th but will be rescheduled. The Lady Presidents Prize to the Men was competed for on the 8th, but was still ongoing at the time of going to press, results to follow during the week.

INTERCLUB – Well done to Sean Heslin’s Jack O’Sullivan Cup team who had a great away victory over Carrick On Shannon Golf Club during the week. Martin Wynne and Conor Hamill won very early in Boyle on the 15th. Lee McKillen and Lochlainn Conboy continued their unbeaten run in their first interclub season winning on the 15th away in Carrick On Shannon. Lorcan Egan and Padraig O’Connell were 3 down after 9 holes in Boyle but clawed their way back hole by hole and won their match with Padraig’s last putt on the 18th, thereby clinching the overall win for Boyle. The 2 remaining matches in Carrick, which were the pairings of Brendan Gaffney and David Gallagher and Jim Suffin and team captain Sean Heslin were called in at this point, but could well have provided another win or 2. This team are proving themselves to be a force to be reckoned with consecutive victories over Rosses Point and Carrick On Shannon. Best of luck in Round 3 to all.
