Boyle fire fighters at Balla blaze
Fire fighters from Boyle were called out last night to deal with a large fire at the Aurivo plant in Ballaghaderreen.
25 firefighters from five units – Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, Carrick, Ballyhaunis and Charlestown fought the fire at a silo where liquid milk is turned into powder.
The Carrick appliance provided the use of a platform to assist in the operation.
The incident was first noticed following an explosion at the plant around 11pm on Friday night.
It is understood no damage occured to the building itself but fire personnel remained on site until after 4am.
There were no injuries reported but the blaze was “potentially extremely serious” according to Roscommon Chief Fire Officer John Keane.
In what was a busy night for the fire service, a fire was also reported at a residential home in Cuppenagh, Cloonloo on Thursday night
