BOYLE ST PATRICKS DAY PARADE
This year’s Boyle St Patricks Day Parade promises to be the best ever with a special International flavour including traditional Samba Dancers! Our Parade will commence at 3.30pm on Friday 17th March. We encourage as many businesses, clubs and associations in Boyle to prepare over the coming weeks to partake in the Parade and enter a float. Entering a float is free so do avail of the opportunity! 1st Prize for Overall Winner is €500 with a runner up of €200; There is also a Junior Section (under 16) 1st Prize is €200 and runner up €100 and of course the Perpetual Cup for the best dressed Window display in town. The success of the Parade depends on the Community and Businesses to get involved and showcase Boyle at its best. Taking part with a float in the Parade offers a great opportunity to promote your club, school or business which we’re all very proud of. Over the coming weeks letters will be dropped into businesses seeking contributions towards the Parade and the organising committee thank the Community always for the warm welcome they receive and their financial support.
ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE
A Lawn Care Clinic will be taking place in Ardcarne Garden Centre Boyle & Roscommon Town on Saturday 18th March from 11.30 until 12.30. Discover the secrets to a greener, healthier lawn and pick up some great tips on all aspects of lawn care. Free Event – All Welcome.
ALBUM LAUNCH
Well known Boyle musician John Carty and his daughter Maggie have released a duet album with the rather catchy title of Settle out of Court. The album will be launched in the pair’s home town of Boyle at Whistlers Bar and Grill on Thursday 16th March. Local singer songwriter Donal O’Connor will officially launch the CD and proceedings will start at 9.00pm upstairs in the venue. Everyone is invited to attend the launch which will be followed by a music session downstairs so all musicians most particularly welcome!
DAFFODIL DAY
Every three minutes in Ireland a person receives a cancer diagnosis. In order to provide information, support and care to people affected by cancer, the Irish Cancer Society needs to raise €3.98 million this year on Daffodil Day, March 24th. Volunteers in Boyle are determined to show their support for people in the community who are dealing with cancer in their lives. On Daffodil Day they will be selling daffodils and other daffodil bits and pieces!
Daffodil Day, the flagship fundraising day of the Irish Cancer Society and the longest running collection day in Ireland, funds services to support cancer patients and their families on every step of the cancer journey. Services include the Society’s Freephone Cancer Nurseline 1800 200 700 and 13 Daffodil Centres around the country where anyone worried about cancer can speak to a Cancer Nurse.
GOLF CLASSIC
A Golf Classic will be held in Boyle Golf Club for Boyle Courthouse & Model Railway on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March. Teams of 4 – price €100 per team / Lunch is included in entrance fee – your support is most welcome – confirmation is needed by Tuesday 21st February.
WALKERS CLUB
The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers club will be taking place on Sunday 26th March, meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at 10am. This will be a Climb/Grade B at Benwiskin. BOYLE & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB
Boyle Annual Pike Angling Festival will be taking place on the Easter weekend, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th April on Lough Key, Boyle. €5000 guaranteed prize fund 1st Prize €2,500 plus the Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Cup. In addition, Saturday and Sunday’s winners will each receive €1175 in prize money. Entry Fee per person – Adults €60 / Juniors €20 (Junior’s must fish for junior prize and be accompanied by a fee paying adult). DATE FOR YOUR DIARY
A Free Cookery Foundation Course will be taking place this Easter in Abbey Community College/ Boyle Enterprise Centre. This course is suitable for anyone seeking employment in the Restaurant/Hotel/Nursing Home or Deli Sectors. Tonya Keane BA (Hons) Culinary Arts will be the Tutor for this course which will take place on Monday 10th April – Friday 28th April from 9.30 until 4.30. TOUGHEST MUCKERS
Entry will soon open for Ireland’s Toughest Muckers challenge which will take place once again in Lough Key Forest Park on Saturday June 10th. A new website will be launched later this month for the event and a dedicated entry section will be available on the website. The 10k obstacle challenge will have a number of new features this year according to one of the organisers A “Little Muckers” course will be added this year for participants under 16 years of age with all monies raised from this section going to a nominated children’s charity. This is the fifth year for Toughest Muckers to be held in Boyle and early indications are that it will be a sell-out event. And remember, your entry gets you free beer, food and entertainment at the finish line.
TIDY TOWN AND AMENITY GRANTS
Roscommon County Council is currently accepting applications under the Tidy Towns & Amenity Grants Scheme 2017 Applications will be accepted from: – Tidy Towns Associations – Local Development Groups – Sub-Aqua Groups Funding is available for eligible small scale capital amenity projects. Please note that it is important that all sections of the Scheme are read in full before completed application forms are submitted. BOYLE FAMILY LIFE CENTRE
A new family support drop in facility has commenced on Wednesday mornings at Boyle Family Life Centre. It is being held from 9.30am-12pm during the school term. This is a safe space for parents/families to call in and receive support and a listening ear for their family and parenting dilemmas. The drop in is an inter-agency pilot project together with Boyle FRC, Foroige and Tusla.

COURTYARD MARKET
The market is now open for Organic Fruit and Vegetables, Organic Eggs, Olive Oil, Achill Sea Salt, Breads, Cakes and Tarts. The market will be open from 10am until 2pm each and every Saturday.
