A body was discovered on the outskirts of Carrick on Shannon on Wednesday afternoon.
The identity of the person found has not been confirmed pending a full forensic analysis.
Army personnel, Civil Defence, Gardai and members of the public had been conducting a search in recent weeks for missing 30 year old Declan Whyte.
Mr Whyte, who is originally from Dublin, had been living in the Leitrim area for the past few years and was last seen in the Summerhill area of Carrick on Shannon on February 11.
