Boyle Credit Union merges with Sligo to strengthen services

The Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of Sligo Credit Union warmly welcome all members of Boyle Credit Union to our community.

This partnership will create a stronger, unified credit union, enhancing financial services for members while continuing to prioritise community-focused values.

The merger combines both organisations’ expertise, resources, and dedicated teams, enabling the expanded credit union to provide greater access to financial products, improved technology and enhanced member benefits.

Boyle Credit Union members will now have availability to a wider range of services, including Current Accounts and Green Loans, along with an expanded network of branch locations in Sligo town, Collooney, Co. Sligo, and Drumkeerin, Co. Leitrim.

Strengthening Local Communities

Boyle Credit Union has been a cornerstone of the community, serving 6,000 members since its establishment in 1978. Sligo Credit Union, with a legacy of sixty years, shares a commitment to supporting local individuals, families, and businesses. Together, the merged credit union will continue this tradition of community care, with a renewed focus on financial inclusion and sustainability.

The merger reflects a shared vision of growth and innovation while maintaining the core values that have guided both credit unions for decades.

Joe Currid, Manager of Boyle Credit Union, expressed enthusiasm about the merger: “This is something we’re excited about, as it greatly enhances our ability to deliver services, which is at the heart of what we do. With Sligo holding around €100m in assets and Boyle at approximately €20m, the combined assets will exceed €120m. This growth positions us to become a key player in providing financial services.”

Orla Lee, CEO of Sligo Credit Union, added: “We are delighted to welcome Boyle Credit Union members to our extended family. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient credit union that remains focused on its members and their financial wellbeing.”

What Members Need to Know

The merger process is seamless for members, with all existing accounts, loans, and services transitioning automatically. Members can expect enhanced service offerings and improved access to resources while retaining the same personalised care and attention they value.

In compliance with the Criminal Justice Act 2010 (Section 33), the Credit Union is required to maintain up-to-date photo ID and proof of address for all members. Boyle members are kindly asked to visit any Sligo Credit Union branch at their earliest convenience with their photo ID and proof of address. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

As agreed, Sligo Credit Union’s new name Northwest Credit Union will be formally introduced in the coming weeks once it is registered with the Central Bank. In the intervening period, the credit union will be called Sligo Credit Union.

Looking Ahead

As a unified entity, the new credit union will continue to operate under the cooperative principles that have always been at the heart of its mission. This merger signals a commitment to sustainable growth, innovation, and community support.
