Councillors from the Boyle Municipal District will soon discuss a Part 8 planning application for a number of changes on the N61 road that runs through the town, along with works to an adjacent road way on Elphin Street.
The development will involve the implementation of a one-way system on the L50571 (the slip road that connects from the Railway Station to Elphin Street) and the realignment of the junction between the L50571 and the N61.
A zebra pedestrian crossing is to be installed on the N61 at Elphin Street – near the entrance to the Plunkett Home – along with zebra pedestrian crossings on either end of Main Street – one at Bank of Ireland and one near Wynnes’s Bar.
Existing pedestrian crossings at Military Road and The Crescent are to be upgraded to current standards.
The project involves:
Site clearance works
Footpath improvements
Pedestrian Lights
Pavement works
Other ancillary works including the provision of traffic signs, road markings, kerbs, street lighting and utility diversions.
There is no proposal under this plan to implement a one way system in the town centre.
According to the Local Authority, an Appropriate Assessment screening report and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report in respect of the development have been carried out and are available for inspection.

reasonable cost of making a copy) for a period of four weeks from 5th March 2024 during public opening hours at the offices of Roscommon County Council, Áras an Chontae, Roscommon Town F42 VR98.
