Minister of State at the Department of Health and local FG TD Frank Feighan TD has warmly welcomed the commencement of construction works at the turn off junctions for Cootehall and Croghan of the main N4 road between Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon.
Minister Feighan has enthusiastically pursued this important issue for the many residents who must drive onto the busy N4. In recent months Roscommon County Council had made significant progress with landowners and has been in active correspondence with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
TII sought a revised feasibility report considering agreed changes in design and this revised report detailing the required accommodation works and funding was submitted from Roscommon Co Council to TII.
The first phase will be to complete the accommodation works and that the pavement rehab would follow on in phase 2 with funding under the Pavement Asset Repair and Renewal Scheme.
“I am sure many people were frustrated with the pace and progress getting this project ‘up and running’ however it is important to realise that given the volume of traffic on the N4 it is vital that TII and Roscommon County Council get everything right at design and planning stage.
“In conclusion I wish to thank Roscommon Co Council for their on-going commitment to these vital safety works, and I am glad that work has commenced. I am pleased to have played some small part in raising this issue as a public representative and using my influence to ensure this project became a reality.
I believe that the outcome will be safer access on to the N4 for the local area’s residents” concluded Minister Feighan.
