Run, Walk n Roll goes ‘virtual’ for 2020
Due to COVID-19, the annual 2020 Run, Walk, n Roll in Boyle is being launched as a virtual event this year. The run has been organised by Damian Regan and his family as well as a team of local volunteers for the last 25 years. “It’s bitterly disappointing that we can’t celebrate its 25th birthday the way we would like this year, but having my daughters taking on the virtual element has allowed more people to access the event. At the end of the day, raising much needed funds for cancer research is the priority”, said Damian Regan.
To get involved this year, run your 5K your way. You have 25 days to complete your 5k starting on October 6 and finishing October 31st. You could run 5K a day for 25 days, run 5k over 5 days, you can cycle, walk run or roll, your decision. Complete your run, make a donation on https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/run-walk-n-roll-2020 and share a picture on our social media.
Community fundraiser Lorraine Toner stated, “Fundraisers like Damian are dedicated to ensuring we keep up the fight against cancer. Our services have seen increased demand since Covid 19 and the cancellation of Daffodil Day in March has had a big impact on our fundraising. Run Walk n Roll going virtual this year has opened it up to allow more people to take on the challenge and raise vital funds for cancer research. Please give what you can and enjoy staying healthy and safe with #5Kyourway”.
Damian Regan has fundraised for cancer research through this much-loved community run over the last 25 years, helping find new ways to ensure that we have least risk of getting cancer, best treatment if we do, and most hope of thriving afterwards. Damian and the community in Boyle has to date raised almost €185,000 for cancer research. The Irish Cancer Society currently funds over 100 cancer researchers across Ireland working to develop new and better treatments for many different types of cancer. Get involved this year to help in the fight against cancer.
