Great welcome for commencement of cyclepath

There has been unanimous welcome that the Lough Key to Boyle cycle path is finally to commence construction. There had been a slight delay due to safety audits and licence agreements and various other ‘behind the scenes’ items, but once construction starts this week it should be fully completed and ready for opening by the end of the year. The cyclepath for which the Town Team and Roscommon Co Co secured €500,000 in funding is integral to attracting the increasing number of visitors from Lough Key Forest Park, and the Marina into Boyle. But the Team and the Council can only do so much. It is now up to businesses in Boyle to prepare for the 2020 season and to commence planning on how they can benefit from the cyclepath.
Boyle businesses could take a leaf out of the book from Kilmacthomas in Waterford where they prepared for the increase in business the Waterford Greenway brought and you can see how they did this here.

An example of community pride

Another great act of community spirit was evident last night when members of Boyle Angling Club along with others undertook a clean up of the Boyle river in advance of the Pride of Place judging which takes place on Tuesday week. This exercise is exactly what the judges are looking for – members of the community taking pride in their town. And we have plenty of examples of community pride with the problem for the committee being how the showcase all the great community pride and spirit that is evident in Boyle in the allocated 3 hour judging window. Please make sure to be in Boyle on the afternoon of August 13th for judging day. More details in local media and on the Boyle Pride of Place Facebook page.

Lighting upgrade for the town

The upgrade of the public lighting in Boyle as outlined in the news section of Boyletoday.com is another positive for the town. The new energy efficient LED lights will not only provide an energy saving but the colour from the lights gives a nicer ‘glow’ in the town. The project is being undertaken by Electric Skyline who employ a number of people from the locality. The upgrade is another step in the right direction for Boyle – a town with a lot more good news on the horizon.

Boyle gets ready to ‘Rock the Clock’

Hats off once again to the enterprising trio of Aaron Sharkey, Joe Ryan and Barry Simon who are the organisers of this weekend’s ‘Rock the Clock’ festival in Boyle. Instead of moaning about lost custom and what other towns are doing, the three publican’s got together and did something about it – and organised a mini festival for the town. It is yet another example of how Boyle is pulling together now better than ever before. The full list of events is in the news section of this website and what better way of showing your support for the festival than attending the events and buying a duck for the duck race. And in advance of Saturday night’s firework display, the organisers ask that dogs etc are kept indoors when the display starts around midnight.

Water leak on Carrick Road

Regular walkers on the  popular Carrick Road, Maple Drive, Abbeytown circuit will be aware of a water leak on the Carrick Road that has been left unattended for a long number of weeks now. It is understood the leak has been reported to Roscommon County Council and Irish Water. Some weeks ago two men visited the scene of the leak and investigated same but went away and nothing has happened since. It is scandalous the amount of water that has been lost from this one leak at a time when we are told how precious water is.

And finally….!

A male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A pretty young student nurse appears and gives him a partial sponge bath.
“Nurse,”‘ he mumbles from behind the mask, “are my testicles black?”
Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, “I don’t know, Sir. I’m only here to wash your upper body and feet.”
He struggles from behind the mask to ask again, “Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?”
Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and pulls back the covers. She raises his gown and checks to see.
She looks very closely and says, “There’s nothing wrong with them, Sir. They look fine.”
The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her, and says very slowly, “Thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very, very closely. Are… my… test… results… back?
