Live Gigs at Boyle Arts Festival

With only days to go until the official opening of Boyle Arts Festival 2019, there is still time to get tickets for some of the big names in this year’s live gig programme.

The Swing Cats will kick off the live music programme, with an appearance in The Storehouse on July 19th. The six piece band led by Luke Thomas, has amassed a huge following thanks to their distinctive sound, which is steeped in the golden era of swing music.

Dublin four pieces The Riptide Movement are renowned for their phenomenal live shows and soaring radio ready guitar rock. With songs like ‘Elephant in the Room’, ‘All Works Out’ and ‘Changeling’, their appearance in The Storehouse on this Saturday will be one of those incredible nights to remember. The band will be supported by local musician Adam Daly.

Some other big names to watch out for this year include Tommy Fleming, who will bring his ‘Voice of Hope II’ tour to St. Joseph’s Church on July 21st. The evening promises to be a very special occasion with spiritual, inspirational music along with some of Tommy’s usual repertoire.

Prepare to be spellbound by Sligo band The Whileaways, when they bring their intricate harmonies, beautifully crafted original songs and captivating lyrics to the Church of Ireland on July 22nd.

Two Divas and a Piano are singers Flo McSweeney and Carmel McCreagh accompanied by pianist and arranger, Fiachra Trench.  On July 23rd in King House, they will perform ‘Love Bites’, which takes a wry look at love through a collection of great songs from Gershwin to Cole Porter and from Joni Mitchell to Tom Waits.

Celebrating twenty five years since their Eurovision win with ‘Rock & Roll Kids’, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan are teaming up once again especially for Boyle Arts Festival, with a unique performance of some of their best known classics in the Church of Ireland on July 23rd.

We are delighted to have veteran singer/songwriter Kieran Goss back with us for BAF 2019. Kieran will be joined by Annie Kinsella and together they will perform songs from their debut album, ‘Oh, The Starlings’ during a special late night show in King House on July 25th. This is a show to make you laugh and cry, a show to move you, a show not to be missed.

Local artists have always been a cornerstone of Boyle Arts Festival and we have some great local artists lined up for BAF 2019, including Pete Higgins, who will play an intimate show in The Stairs on July 24th.

Pete will be launching his second album entitled ‘Adrift in a Sea of Apathy’ in July. He continues to pull at the thread of modern living and how new life can usher in a sea change of perspective.

Local band Fleetwood Craic are back together for another ‘one night only’ appearance in the Storehouse on July 21st. Expect a great night with an energetic set of classic rock anthems from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s along with some modern rock hits.

And do not miss local band The Martyrs who will kick off BAF 2019, with a free gig in The Patrick’s Well on July 19th, peppered with blistering energetic performances of the best Rock, Pop and Folk songs.

Fronted by Niall Breslin (Bressie), one of Ireland’s most exciting live bands, The Blizzards are a four piece power punk pop outfit. Propelled by melodic and dynamic hooks, at the core of their sound is guitar driven song writing that houses a heart of pop and a soul of distinctive lyrical storytelling. Catch them in The Storehouse on July 26th. Supported by Montauk Hotel.

BAF 2019 will conclude on July 27th with a late night performance in The Storehouse by one of Ireland’s most beloved singers, Mary Coughlan. The word ‘legend’ is not one to be used lightly, but in this case it is entirely appropriate. Whether into folk, blues or jazz, no one can fail to be moved by the emotional depth, expression & power in her voice, forged from an extraordinary life.
