Plans unveiled for new Sports Centre
A proposal for a new Sports Centre in Boyle is gaining momentum with plans for the progressive development put before a number of local organisations at a meeting in the town last night.
The plans, on the Termon Lands, are being spearheaded by the recently formed Boyle Community Sports and Leisure Development Association, a group made up of representatives of various local clubs and organisations.
Chairperson Kevin Young outlined the background to the development which would be ‘one of the biggest sporting developments ever in Boyle.’
The Association has been in touch with Roscommon Co Co who are both in agreement and supportive of the plans.
Francis Gaffney from the Association gave an indication of what is proposed to be developed on the lands:
- GAA Pitch
- Soccer Pitch
- Tennis Court
- Basketball Court
- Bowling Green
- Handball Alley
- Children’s Playground
- Leisure Walks
- Fishing Facilities
- River Swimming Area
- Running track
- Sensory garden and associated green area
The list is not fully finalised.
It is also proposed to extend the soon to be developed boardwalk/cycle path from the Royal development, along The Lawn to the Sports Centre.
Brian Nerney from the Termon and Warren Land Trustees informed the meeting that a meeting of the Trustees earlier Tuesday evening unanimously agreed to dispose of the lands to the new Association with a proviso that a portion is retained for grazing.
A public meeting will now take place to ensure the majority of the town are in favour of the disposal.

All present were in agreement that the planned development would be of immense benefit to the town.
