Boyle Celtic began 2019 with a one all draw versus Athlone based side St. Peters at a Baltic-like Celtic Park on Saturday evening. The game was a feisty one with crunching tackles and controversial decisions aplenty.
‘Celtic’s first chance came after nine minutes. James Bolger found Luka Roddy, who darted down the wing. His cross found Lee McKillen, whose header was saved by the keeper.
Boyle Keeper Kyle Sweeney saved a dipping free-kick soon after as both sides searched for an opener.
The opener did arrive on the stroke of half-time. Danny Browne’s corner was met by McKillen, who made no mistake this time.
Half Time: Boyle Celtic 1, St. Peters 1.
Boyle had a nightmare start to the second half. A lapse in concentration at the back resulted in Mark McConnell heading in.
There were few highlights thereafter. However, the main flashpoint being Boyle reduced to ten men as Dessie Carlos received a second yellow card with half an hour remaining.
‘Celtic made one final push in the dying minutes, with the likes Michael Corrigan and John Connolly both having opportunities, but to no avail.
