Thanks to the support of the public,the Irish Cancer Society has committed over €25milllion to cancer research since 2010.The society currently supports more than150 cancer researchers to work on projects that will ultimatley lead to better ways of diagnosing and treating cancer ,including the €7.5million BREAST-PREDICT programme,which focuses on breast cancer.
BREAST- PREDICT unites cancer experts across the country to working towards better predicting which therapies are best for each breast cancer patient, giving all patients thr best possible chance at a long healthy life..
Based at the Lambe Institute for Transitional Research at NUI Galway,breast cancer researcher Dr.Roisin Dwyer’s research focuses on investigating whether the way our cells communicate with one another can be used to send “anti-tumour” messages to cancer cells.
To date ,over 2,500 patients have joined 9 BREAST-PREDICT affiliated studies across 13 Irish hospitals BREAST-PREDICT currently has 7 BREAST cancer diagnostic tests in development and 16 novel drug therapies in pre-clinical testing .None of this would be possible without the public’s support of cancer research.

1960s- very poor chance of survival
1990s- 4 in 10 people survive cancer
Today-6 in 10 people survive cancer
