The Government has approved €13.7m to improve the surface and safety of local roads throughout County Roscommon.
Announcing the news Minister Denis Naughten said “This money is very welcome especially in light of the deteriorating condition of roads particularly in the last few weeks due to the weather”.
Included in the allocation of €13,700,700 for restoration and improvements works is €290,000 for bridge rehabilitation works and a further €282,000 for safety improvement works, allocated by Minister Shane Ross.
The main priority in allocating this funding to Roscommon County Council has been the maintenance and safety of the road network. The Minister has also laid down that all resurfacing is to be completed by the end of September which means that we won’t have works taking place in the wetter winter months.
The following areas are to benefit from safety improvement works: Cloonmore, Whitehall; Lisheen; Corbally West, Elphin; Ballykilcline, Rooskey; crash barrier north of Hillstreet village; Dysart village; Lissacurkia; Cloonlumney; local primary road between Garranlahan and Cloonfad; Killenboy; Cloonsellan; Cartron; Lacken Cross, Rahara; local road between Castlerea and Ballintubber; Ballintubber village and Cuilleenolagh, Dysart.
Among the bridges that will benefit from rehabilitation works are the locations: Cloonneenbaun West, Emlaghnagree, Cloonagh, Emlagh Beg, Rathmore, Ardass and Castlestrange.
This funding comes on top of funding announced by Transport Infrastructure Ireland earlier this month with the news it is to invest €13.3m in national road improvements and maintenance throughout County Roscommon in 2018
