Run Walk n Roll this Sunday
Six in 10 cancer patients survive cancer, compared to just three in 10 fifty years ago.
Dr Robert O’Connor, Head of Research at the Irish Cancer Society said, “Much of this is down to advances in research, which has found answers to questions like what can cause cancer, how it can be detected earlier, and better treatments.
“Researchers won’t stop until 10 in 10 cancer patients survive their diagnosis, but the race to stop cancer is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s why the Irish Cancer Society is so grateful to the people of Boyle who line up for Run Walk n Roll every year and give generous support when it comes to continuing our investment in vital cancer research.
The Irish Cancer Society has invested €20 million in cancer research since 2010. The people here in Roscommon play an important part to fund our work through events like Run Walk n Roll in Boyle that to date has raised over €162,000.
Without you, our research scientists would not be able to play a vital role in the global fight to stop cancer.”
Thank You to the people of Boyle for supporting Run Walk n Roll and playing their part in the fight against cancer.
Every three minutes a person in Ireland receives a cancer diagnosis. Here in Roscommon, 538 people received a cancer diagnosis over a 12 month period.
The annual run in aid of Cancer Research will take place in Boyle on Sunday the 15th of October.
A percentage of the funds raised this year will be donated to ‘Niamh’s Journey There’ as she continues her difficult journey! Check out this link: https://niamhsjourneythere.wordpress.com/
The theme of this year’s run is ‘Fight back against Cancer’ so that we all come out and fight against it together, both for Niamh and anyone else who benefits from the funds raised for Cancer Research in Ireland.
Registration will be from 1.30pm with the Run/Walk starting off from St. Joseph’s Hall at 3pm and going through the town via Main St., Abbeytown, Maple Drive, Carrick Road and returning back to the hall via Marian Road where light refreshments will be available afterwards.
This is a non-competitive event for all ages and abilities and a fun day for all the family. The only one you are competing against is yourself. Entry is €10.00 for adults and €5.00 for under 16’s and €20.00 for a family.
Thank you for your support over the last 21 years in which the Boyle run alone has raised over €160,000 for Cancer Research in Ireland. Looking forward to seeing you there Damian Regan 0863942388.
