A man in his forties has died following a two car collision near Carrowmore between Roscommon and Ballymurray on the N61 Roscommon to Athlone road.
The accident occured at approximately 11.30pm Sunday night.
The male driver and sole occupant of one of the cars was seriously injured in the collision and taken by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where he was later pronounced dead.
A 44 year old woman who was driving the second car and a 15 year old female passenger were also injured.
They were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore where their injuries are described as non life threatening.
The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision exam and local diversions are in place.
